چکیده

Organic fouling hinders the application of membrane treatment alternative water. In this study, polyethyleneimine (PEI), titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles, and graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets were used for modifying cation-exchange membranes to enhance anti-organic desalination performance during electrodialysis synthetical water municipal wastewater. Fouling propensity unmodified modified was quantitatively evaluated by measuring organic accumulation on surface using humic acid (HA, simulating natural matter) bovine serum albumin (BSA, matter in wastewater effluent) as model foulants. Significant deposition HA observed unmodified, PEI-TiO2, PEI-modified surfaces while trivial detected PEI-GO membrane. BSA minor all compared Desalination efficiency with membranes, except membrane, significantly improved treating foulant (20%~40% reduction normalized salt removal). Relatively stable behaviors each system BSA-containing water, enhanced demonstrated membranes. Subsequent long-term experiments effluent revealed superior antifouling capacity nanocomposite (especially membrane) over 100-hour operation, exhibited severe (with total more than 60% decline removal) after approximately 50-hour a standard Microtox® acute toxicity assay, did not show any towards Vibrio fischeri due potential leaching PEI nanomaterials, indicating safe utilization treatment.

Design of Anion Exchange Membranes and Electrodialysis Studies for Water Desalination

Anion exchange membranes are highly versatile and nowadays have many applications, ranging from water treatment to sensing materials. The preparation of anion exchange membranes (AEMs) from brominated poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,6-phenylene oxide) (BPPO) and methyl(diphenyl)phosphine (MDPP) for electrodialysis was performed. The physiochemical properties and electrochemical performance of fabricated me...

Preparation of new composite membranes for water desalination using electrodialysis

The use of polyethersulfone (PES), an excellent but highly hydrophobic thermoplastic, as a matrix material for ionexchange membranes was investigated. To make PES ion-exchangeable, sulfonate groups were introduced to the polymer chains by sulfonation reaction with chlorosulfonic acid. The degree of sulfonation of sPES was estimated to be 21%. Preliminary experiments investigated the effect of p...

Monopolar and Platinum Interfaced Bipolar Membrane Electrodialysis: Experimental Assessment Using Synthetic Salt Solution Heterogeneous Cation Exchange Membranes

In this study, polystyrene ethylene butylene polystyrene (PSEBS) was functionalized to prepare mono and bipolar ion exchange membranes. In the case of the bipolar membrane, platinum was used as the intermediate layer. NaCl solution of concentration ranging from 5 g/L to 25 g/L was used as the feed solution. A commercially procured ion exchange membrane made of polystyrene divinyl benzene was al...

Electrodialysis of Blood Using Ion-Exchange Membranes

THE correction of electrolyte imbalance and the removal of retention products of the blood during renal failure is at present achieved by the use of artificial kidneys which permit the diffusion of solutes through a semi-permeable membrane. Several types of apparatus used successfully for hemodialysis include those described by Kolff and Watschinger (1956) and Alwall, Norviit, and Steins (1948)...
